CONGRATULATIONS to Margate Mini Coach and Airport Services which celebrated its 20th anniversary last week. From a fledgling beginning – one small bus and one lone passenger in 1975 – the company now transports about 20 000 passengers a year. Twenty years ago the company only supplied a twice, weekly service to Durban. This has grown to 13 buses a week and up to 20 in season. It also charters the `Flutterbus’ to the Wild Coast Sun. Marian de Deugd joined the company, which was started by Sheila Lander, as a bus driver in 1986. Marian worked her way up to administration manager and then took over the business in 1991 when Sheila left the coast.
